Marina Bay is a 4.927 km, 19-corner street circuit that runs clockwise around the city's waterfront and is raced entirely at night under roughly 1,600 floodlights. There is little room for error: walls line almost the whole lap, the track is bumpy and slow-speed, and the heat and humidity make it one of the most physically demanding races of the year. Lewis Hamilton has said it takes about double the energy of a single lap at Monaco.

The layout was shortened for 2023, when the technical Turn 16-19 section on the Marina Bay floating platform was removed and replaced with a straight on Raffles Avenue. That change created a clear overtaking spot, and the lap record has since fallen from 1:41.905 on the old layout to 1:33.808. Turn 1 (Sheares) and Turn 7 (Memorial) are two of the corners that carry a name.

The Singapore Grand Prix joined the calendar in 2008 as Formula 1's first night race. The inaugural race is remembered for the wrong reasons: Fernando Alonso's win for Renault was later linked to a deliberate crash by his team-mate Nelson Piquet Jr., which triggered the Safety Car. The circuit is a temporary layout on public roads around the Marina Bay area.

The circuit also gained a reputation for Safety Cars: every race from 2008 to 2023 had at least one. The tight Turn 10 chicane, known as the Singapore Sling, was removed in 2013. The race was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic and returned in 2022 with a win for Sergio Pérez.

Carlos Sainz won the first race on the shorter 2023 layout, followed by Lando Norris in 2024. In 2025 George Russell won for Mercedes and Hamilton set the current lap record in a Ferrari. The 2026 race is scheduled for 11 October.
