Live Timing Documentation

A reference for every panel, column and setting on the live timing screen. The sections follow the same order as the dashboard itself, top to bottom and left to right, so you can find whatever you are looking at on screen.

Colour is used throughout the dashboard as a shortcut, never as the only signal. Wherever a colour carries meaning, this guide also gives it in words, and the underlying value on screen always says the same thing.

Session Info Bar

Location on screen: Fixed bar across the top of the screen

A bar that never scrolls away, so you can always see which session is running, what the weather is doing and whether the track is currently clear. Check it first whenever you come back to the page.

Every column available on the leaderboard, with an example of its rendered value.

Gap, Leader, Gap Lap and Gap Sectors are not the same thing

Four columns all look like time differences but answer different questions. This is the most common source of confusion on the leaderboard.

Difference between the gap-style columns
ColumnQuestion it answersTypical use
GapHow far behind the car directly in front am I, right now?Judging whether an overtake is on.
LeaderHow far behind the race leader am I, in total?Understanding the shape of the whole field and who is a lap down.
Gap LapWas my last lap quicker or slower than the reference driver's last lap?Comparing raw pace, independent of track position.
Gap SectorsIn which part of the lap am I gaining or losing against the reference?Finding out whether a deficit is in slow corners, fast corners or on the straights.
Position changeHow many places have I gained or lost since the start?Seeing who has made progress in a race.

Last lap, best lap, personal best and session best

Lap time terminology
TermMeaning
Last lapThe lap the driver has just completed, whatever the time.
Best lapThe quickest lap that driver has managed so far in this session.
Personal bestA time that beats that same driver's previous best. Shown in green.
Session bestA time that is the quickest of anyone in the session so far. Shown in purple. In motorsport this is usually just called “purple”.

Timing colours

Colour is used to make fast times obvious at a glance. The value itself always tells you the same story, so you never need to rely on colour alone.

Meaning of timing cell colours
AppearanceMeaning
PurpleFastest of all drivers so far. Also called a session best.
GreenThe driver's own best. A personal best, but not the fastest overall.
Dimmed purpleA session best from the previous lap, shown because the current lap has not set that time yet.
Dimmed greenA personal best from the previous lap, for the same reason.

Mini sectors

The lap is divided into three sectors, and each sector into several small segments. Each segment gets its own coloured bar as the driver passes through it, so you can watch a lap develop in real time rather than waiting for the sector time.

Mini sector segment colours
AppearanceStatus codeMeaning
Yellow2048, 2052Segment completed, but no improvement on the driver's best.
Green2049Personal best for that segment.
Purple2051Fastest of anyone in that segment.
Pink2064The driver was in the pit lane.
Grey0Not set yet on this lap.

Driver states

When something happens to a driver, the row changes and the Info column spells it out in words.

Driver states and how they appear

In pit lanePITPink PIT badgeThe car is in the pits, either being serviced or driving through.
Out lapPIT OUTPink PIT badgeThe driver has just left the pits and is on the lap that returns them to racing speed. Times on this lap are not representative.
Below the cut lineNo changeRed row, or orange if it is one of your favouritesIn qualifying, the driver is currently in an elimination place.
FavouriteNo changeGreen rowOne of the up-to-two drivers you have selected.
No data yetNo changeRow not shownTiming data for that driver has not arrived. The whole board shows a pulsing placeholder while it loads.
Note:An in lap is the lap on which a driver comes into the pits; an out lap is the lap after leaving. Both are much slower than a normal lap, so ignore them when comparing pace.

Qualifying elimination

In qualifying, rows in an elimination position are highlighted red so you can see who needs to improve. If one of those drivers is a favourite of yours, the row turns orange instead so it still stands out from the green favourite highlight.

Qualifying cut lines
SegmentEliminated
Q1Anyone below 15th place. From the 2026 season this becomes 16th.
Q2Anyone below 10th place.
Q3Nobody. Q3 decides the top of the grid.

Compact view on phones

On a small screen the table can be replaced by one card per driver, showing position, tyre, interval, gap to leader, last and best lap, mini sectors and sector times. It ignores your column order and always shows the same fields.

Track Map

Location on screen: Right of the leaderboard

A scale drawing of the circuit with a dot for every car. Use it to see how the field is spread out, where a yellow flag is, and whether two cars are about to meet.

Driver dots

How driver dots appear on the map
AppearanceMeaning
Coloured dot with a three-letter codeA car on track. The colour is the team colour.
Faded dotThe driver is in the pit lane.
No dot at allThe driver has retired, stopped on track, or been knocked out of qualifying. They are removed from the map entirely.
Larger dot with a white ringOne of your favourite drivers.

Track colouring

With no favourites selected, the circuit outline is split into its three timing sectors, drawn in red, blue and yellow so you can tell them apart. When marshals show a flag, the affected sectors change colour and pulse to match the track status described in the Session Info Bar section.

Following one favourite

With a single favourite selected, the parts of the lap they have just completed are drawn along the circuit in the mini-sector colours, so you can see their lap taking shape on the map itself.

Single favourite trail colours
AppearanceMeaning
GreenPersonal best for that part of the lap.
PurpleFastest of anyone in that part of the lap.
PinkThe driver was in the pit lane.

Comparing two favourites

Select two favourites and the map switches to a head-to-head view: each of the three sectors is coloured for whichever of the two is quicker there. Your primary favourite is marked in yellow and the secondary in magenta, the same colours as the rings around their names on the leaderboard. If the two drive for different teams, the sector is drawn with the winner's team colour inside that yellow or magenta border.

Turn corner numbers on or off from the gear icon, under Display. They are off by default to keep the map uncluttered, but they help when a race control message refers to a specific corner.

Driver Timeline

Location on screen: Full width, below the leaderboard and map. Races and sprints only.

Legend, not shown in the app, added here for clarity:
Primary favourite
Secondary favourite

Dots show roughly where each car is around the lap. Dimmed dots are in the pit lane or a lap down.

How to read it

The strip represents one lap of the circuit. Each dot is a car, placed where it currently is around that lap. Dots bunched together mean cars running nose to tail; big empty stretches mean the field has spread out. A driver a long way from the leader is a long way round the lap from them. Cars that are a lap or more down appear alongside whoever they happen to be driving near on track, which is what you would see trackside.

Driver timeline appearance

Note:This panel only appears during a Race or Sprint. There is nothing to click on it, and it does not have an axis or scale. Treat it as a picture of the field, not a measurement.

Event Notifications

Location on screen: Configured from the gear icon; banners appear under the session info bar

Alerts for things you would otherwise have to watch for. Each event can play a sound, show an on-screen banner, or both. They are two separate switches on the same row of one settings panel.

The twelve events

Events marked “Fav Driver” only fire for your favourite drivers, so they stay quiet unless you have picked someone on the leaderboard.

Note:Best Sector and Improved Sector are easy to confuse. Best Sector means your driver was fastest of everyone in that sector. Improved Sector means they beat their own previous time but somebody else is still quicker.

Banners

A banner is a small notification that appears just below the session info bar. It shows an icon and a short message, stays for about four seconds and then disappears on its own.

Sounds

Every event can use any of the fourteen available sounds. A preview button next to the selector plays the sound immediately so you can pick one you will recognise. The full list is: Chord, Whistleronic, Taptap, Polite, Beeper, Alarmed, Glisten, Glass, Belligerent, Enharpment, Calm, Cloud, Sharp, Jinja.

Heads up:There is no volume control. Sounds play at a fixed level, so use your device or browser tab volume. Browsers also block audio until you have interacted with the page, so click anywhere on the dashboard once at the start of a session to make sure alerts can play.

Setting them up

Where each notification control lives
ControlWhereWho can use it
Event Notifications master switchGear icon → Display, and at the top of the event settings panelEveryone. Turning it off silences every sound and banner.
Sound switch per eventGear icon → Event Notifications CustomizationPremium
Banner switch per eventSame panel, next to the sound switchPremium
Sound choice per eventSame panel, dropdown on each rowPremium
Practice / Qualifying / Race tabsSame panel, above the event listPremium. Lets you keep, for example, penalty alerts on for races but off in practice.
Premium:Without Premium the notifications still work, but they use the default settings shown above and every event plays the same sound (Beeper). Choosing sounds, switching individual events, and configuring them per session type all require Premium.

Settings and Customization

Location on screen: Gear icon in the top bar

Everything you can change, grouped the way the settings menu groups it. Your choices are saved in the browser you are using, so they will be there next session on the same device.

Timing

Television and streaming feeds run behind the live timing data, which spoils incidents before you see them. The delay holds the dashboard back so it matches your broadcast.

There are two places to change it: the top bar of the live timing page itself, and the Timing section of the settings menu. Both offer the same two ways to set the value.

Timing settings
ControlWhereWhat it does
Play and pause buttonTop bar and settings menuPress play and the delay counts up second by second. Press it again to stop as soon as the dashboard matches your broadcast. This is the easiest way to line the two up without guessing a number.
Delay inputTop bar and settings menuType the number of seconds directly, if you already know how far behind your broadcast runs.
ResetSettings menu onlyReturns the delay to zero, fully live.

In the top bar of the live timing page

Press play to let the delay count up, press again to stop it, or type the seconds directly.

In the settings menu, under Timing

DelayThe same controls, plus a Reset back to zero.

delay=0 is true live. This is a client-side buffer, not a server-side delay.

Columns

Choose which leaderboard columns are visible and in what order. The controls are covered in full in the Leaderboard section.

Column manager controls

ResetRestores the default set of columns and their order.
Note:Changing columns requires a free account. Logged out, the manager is replaced by a prompt to log in. Changes take effect immediately.

Settings that live on the leaderboard

Four options are changed by clicking a column header rather than from the settings menu, and are remembered the same way.

Layout customization

Premium layout settings
SettingWhat it does
Enable Custom LayoutTurns the dashboard into a grid you arrange yourself. Drag a block to move it, drag its edge to resize it, and use the × to hide it. Hidden blocks collect in a Hidden Sections list so you can add them back.
Enable Custom ColumnsKeeps a separate set of leaderboard columns for each session type instead of one shared set.
Practice / Qualifying / Race tabsBoth of the above are configured per session type, each with its own Reset, so your race layout can differ from your practice layout.

Blocks you can arrange: Leaderboard, Track Map, Driver Timeline, Driver Championship, Constructor Championship, Race Control, Team Radios, Penalties, Track Limits, Lap Time Series, Race Positions, Tyre Strategy, Drivers' Pace, Teams' Pace, Gap to Leader, Potential Lap — Drivers, Potential Lap — Teams, Top Speed, Best Sector 1, Best Sector 2, Best Sector 3, Speed vs Lap Time, Long Stints (+6 laps). Driver Timeline only appears for races, and each chart only appears in the sessions it applies to.

Premium:Layout customization and per-session columns require Premium. Without it you see a preview of the feature and a link to upgrade, and the dashboard uses the standard layout.

What is not configurable

To save you looking for them, these do not exist: there is no light theme or theme switcher, no interface language setting, no 12- or 24-hour time option, no animation or reduced-motion setting, no font size or contrast options, no refresh-rate setting, no notification volume slider and no desktop or push notifications. The language option on your account page applies to emails only, not to the interface.

Replay Mode

Location on screen: Separate page, linked from the top bar

Watch a past session as though it were happening now, using the same leaderboard, map and panels. Useful for reviewing a race you missed or studying a specific stint at your own pace.

Live, delayed and replay data

Difference between data modes
ModeWhat you are seeing
LiveData as it arrives from the timing feed, typically ahead of a television broadcast.
DelayedThe same live data, held back by the number of seconds you set, so it lines up with your broadcast.
ReplayA recording of a completed session, played back under your control.
EstimatedSome values are worked out by this site rather than supplied by the feed: Position if pit, Potential lap, and the championship projections. Treat them as informed estimates.
Note:A few live-only features are switched off in replay because they do not apply to a recording: the custom layout, the Lap Time Series panel, the chart carousel and the top information bar.
