The Hungaroring, north-east of Budapest, is a 4.381 km lap with 14 corners and almost no straight of any length, which is why it is often compared with a karting circuit. Teams typically run high downforce, close to Monaco levels, and finding a rhythm through the linked corners is what produces lap time. Overtaking chances are few, so qualifying position matters a great deal here.

The main overtaking spot is Turn 1 at the end of the start/finish straight. Summer heat makes tyre management a key part of the race.

The Hungaroring opened in 1986 and hosted the first Formula 1 race behind the Iron Curtain, won by Nelson Piquet. It was designed by István Papp and Ferenc Gulácsi. Formula 1 has raced here every year since, so the 2026 race is the 41st in a row.

A layout revision in 2003 lengthened the main straight and increased the lap to its current 4.381 km. Several corners are now named after past winners, including Turn 1 for Nelson Piquet, Turn 2 for Lewis Hamilton, Turn 4 for Nigel Mansell, Turn 11 for Jean Alesi, Turn 12 for Michael Schumacher and Turn 13 for Ayrton Senna.

Hamilton has won eight times here, more than any other driver. Esteban Ocon took his first career victory for Alpine in 2021 after a first-lap accident. McLaren won in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and Lando Norris's 2026 win was the team's 14th at the track.
