Zandvoort

Zandvoort is a 4.259 km, 14-corner circuit that swoops through the sand dunes on the Dutch North Sea coast. Its elevation changes and old-school feel make it a driver's circuit, and it is one of the few current tracks to use banked corners: Turn 3 (Hugenholtzbocht) and the final Turn 14 (Arie Luyendyk) let drivers carry speed and use a higher line, which also gives a second option for overtaking. Tarzan, the hairpin at Turn 1 at the end of the start/finish straight, is the main passing place.

The layout is narrow, and sand blowing onto the track from the dunes can reduce grip. Grip changes with wind and sand across the weekend, so a stable car and confident braking matter as much as peak downforce.

The circuit opened on 7 August 1948, designed by John Hugenholtz, who later designed Suzuka. Zandvoort hosted the first Dutch round of the World Championship in 1952, when Alberto Ascari led home a Ferrari 1-2-3, and the race stayed on the calendar, with gaps, until 1985. Jim Clark won three times in a row from 1963 to 1965, and Niki Lauda won the last race of that era in 1985. Formula 1 did not return until 2021.

The circuit was rebuilt by Jarno Zaffelli for the 2021 return, adding banked corners at Turns 3 and 14. Max Verstappen won in front of a home crowd in 2021, 2022 and 2023, while Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri won in 2024 and 2025. The 2020 race was cancelled because of the pandemic.

In 2026 the Dutch Grand Prix was staged as a sprint weekend for the first time, and Norris won it for McLaren. The race was scheduled to be the last Dutch Grand Prix on the current calendar.
