Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team was founded in 2010 following Mercedes-Benz's acquisition of Brawn GP, the team that had sensationally won both championships in 2009. The modern Mercedes team combines cutting-edge German engineering with deep racing heritage, reviving the legacy of the original 'Silver Arrows' from the 1950s.
Team History & Evolution
The roots of the current Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team trace back to Tyrrell Racing (1970), which evolved through BAR, Honda, and Brawn GP. In 2009, Brawn GP shocked the world by winning both championships in their only season.
Mercedes officially returned to Formula 1 as a constructor in 2010 after acquiring Brawn GP. The team initially focused on building infrastructure and developing hybrid power units. This paid off with the introduction of new turbo-hybrid regulations in 2014.
From 2014 to 2021, Mercedes established a historic period of dominance. With Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, the team secured eight consecutive Constructors' Championships. Hamilton claimed six Driver titles during this era, equaling Michael Schumacher’s record of seven.
Mercedes' success was driven by excellence in power unit technology, aerodynamics, and race strategy. Their operations in Brackley (chassis) and Brixworth (engine) became industry benchmarks.
Although new technical regulations in 2022 ended their streak, Mercedes remains a top contender, committed to innovation and sustainability in motorsport.
